Lacoste is a very picturesque, medieval village opposite the village of Bonnieux. Perched on the northern slopes of the Petit Luberon Mountain, part of the Luberon National Park, this charming village offers spectacular views over the Calavon Valley and the Mountains of Vaucluse. The walls of the towering ruined castle standing above Lacoste appear to protect the village, well known for the impressive chateau which belonged to the Marquis de Sade in the Eighteenth Century and is now owned by Pierre Cardin. It is a village of ancient stone buildings connected by narrow ‘calade’ pebble surfaced streets and there is a market every Tuesday. There are several restaurants, cafés and a boulangerie in the village.
The house is set in a beautiful established garden. It was the former home of the renowned landscape designer, Alex Dingwall-Main and it not only featured in Alex’s books but in a book named “Dream Homes Country - 100 inspirational interiors” by Andreas von Einsiedel and pictured in OKA’s summer brochure and in The Week for an article “Bolt-holes in France”.
This gorgeous 5 bedroom Mas was completely re-designed and renovated internally during 2014/15. The new owner has created a huge, open plan living/dining area with a completely “up to the minute” kitchen with Smart TV. This opens onto the dining terrace overlooking the pool with its views down the valley and across to the village of Bonnieux.
Upstairs the four bedrooms, all with new bathrooms, have pretty views up to Lacoste (which is particularly romantic at night when it is floodlit) or over the valley below. The house is ideal for two families with two master bedrooms, one with a four poster bed, a twin or double and another double all with en suite bathrooms or shower room. The upstairs TV room gives an additional space for relaxing. There is a ground floor small double bedroom and shower room which is particularly useful for those unable to manage the stairs or wanting an extra bit of privacy, for example a teenager or nanny.
Bedrooms are equipped with TV’s, and the fabrics and furnishings a clever melange of French and English, are country house style with a contemporary twist.
