Designed by a renowned Ile de Ré architect, the house is only steps away from one of the loveliest stretches of beach on the island; it was completed in 2012 using the highest quality materials throughout and has been decorated in a vibrant, relaxed contemporary style by its interiors specialist owners.
A the heart of the house is a spectacular 100 sq m open plan, living /dining area, with wide sliding windows opening East and West onto the outside and providing masses of sunlight. The vast living space is furnished in a dramatic mix of contemporary Italian and mid-century Scandinavian pieces, beautifully complemented by original artwork.
There are 2 separate seating areas in the room: a comfortable set of Poliform sofas and armchair in the centre of the room, and an informal arrangement of colourful low cushions clustered around the open fireplace and TV. At the opposite end of the room, near the kitchen, sits a majestic 3 metre marble-top dining table. The kitchen, which can be closed off with a glass partition, is equipped with every utensil a keen cook could wish for and has a breakfast bar looking out to the mimosa in the garden.
There is outside sheltered dining for 10 and a wonderful outdoor suspended fireplace - great for early summer evenings.
A spacious master suite opens out onto its own courtyard, where inviting Moroso armchairs provide another seating area. It has its own separate study area which can be closed-off with sliding doors, and an airy bathroom. The other four bedrooms can be either twins or doubles and all have built in desks and wardrobes. Two are in the garden annex with views onto the 12m pool.
The house is set in a tranquil and preserved environment, a few steps from the 12 km, south-facing beach where one can watch the sun rise and set. The sunny, secluded garden is sheltered from the wind by the dunes, and planted with local and Mediterranean species that blend in with the pins parasols surrounding the property. Taking centre stage is the 12m pool, long enough to do lapses, surrounded by a timber terrace.
The house is on the beach side of Bois Plage with shops and restaurants open all year, a daily food market from April to September and the lovely port of St Martin, a UNESCO Heritage site, is a short bike ride away.
