Villa Jovina blends the old with the new, cleverly taking the framework of a traditional Indonesian joglo (wooden house) and infusing it with 21st century design ideas and facilities.
The architectural concept delivers comfort and simplicity, with interiors that rely on natural materials, fabrics and earthy colours. There is nothing ostentatious about this villa; the chic simplicity ensures that nothing detracts from the incredible 360-degree views outside.
The spacious main joglo has been extended from its original size to provide a huge open-plan and open-sided living space with a TV room, kitchen, dining room and custom-made teak office, all with wonderful open views on all sides.
Ocean breezes keep this welcoming space delightfully fresh and cool. Sliding teak doors
enable the TV room to be darkened, while spinning wood-and-glass doors on one side of the dining room can be opened for semi-alfresco dining at a custom-made table seating up to 14. Adjoining the dining room is the feature kitchen, also with wood-and-glass doors, which is fully equipped with all a cook might need to prepare meals throughout your stay.
The bedroom accommodation, in individual joglos, is all beautifully finished with comfortable beds, dressing areas, office areas and bathrooms characterised by a blend of iron wood and natural stones decorated with artefacts from all over Indonesia. Each open-air bathroom is bordered by natural stone walls for privacy and fitted with double stone washbasins, ample mirrors, WC, a rainshower and a stone bathtub. All the bedrooms have magnificent views of the coastline, sea and gardens.
We would recommend you spend a couple of days on arrival in Seminyak or Canggu on the south coast before driving up to Lovina (approximately three hours’ drive). From the house all manner of excursions are available, from dolphin watching (which apparently is spectacular) to trips to quiet beaches where the sea is so clear you don’t even need to snorkel to admire the rich corals.
