Driving up from the coast you can soon see the iconic village of Gaucin on the crest of a mountain range in the distance. Winding your way up the valley and through the forest, you soon arrive at the impressive gates to a private estate.

La Quinta is one of three houses hidden on the hillside, all belonging to the same family. It’s a wonderful rural retreat that guarantees total privacy.

Built to the highest specifications, the owners have recreated an 18th-century-style country manor, built around a central octagonal tower, with an enclosed courtyard.

Four bedrooms are in the main house, including the master bedroom, which has a four-poster bed plus an elegant and very spacious en-suite bathroom. Two other bedrooms upstairs share a family bathroom, while downstairs is a second double bedroom with en-suite bathroom, ideal for guests. Across the Moorish courtyard is an independent guest suite.

The outside terraces, garden and pool area are a complete delight. The dining and seating terrace around the house has spectacular views across the valley to the imposing mountain range on the other side and is the perfect place to watch the sunset in the cool of the evening.

The pool area is hidden away down a garden path where the large, freeform pool is one of the prettiest we have seen, and there is a well-equipped pool house with lots of poolside furniture and shady umbrellas.
