Anguilla

If beaches are your thing, Anguilla is close to paradise.

There are miles and miles of beaches on Anguilla, perhaps the most beautiful in the Caribbean. Edged by an electric blue sea, they are blindingly white, thick and soft.

Anguilla (the ‘eel’), a tiny sliver of an island 16 miles long by three miles wide, is the most northerly of the British Leeward Islands. It is five miles from the French port of St Martin, where you can go by ferry for a day of duty-free shopping. Or you can just as easily pop over to St Barth’s on an island hopper for lunch.

The island has purposefully kept itself in the top end of the travel business, refusing cruise ships and package holidays while cultivating five-star hotels and super luxury villas.

It is renowned for some of the best food in the Caribbean and remains a safe and friendly island, laidback but top spec.
