Lopud 1438 is a 15th century Franciscan monastery located on the tiny car free island of Lopud in Croatia. 20 years of renovation were necessary before opening this magical fortress to private groups. With its historic plastering techniques Lopoud 1438 is home to the owner renaissance and contemporary art pieces. 

The 13 original cells have been elegantly transformed into five airy private suites, each with its own bathroom and views over the ocean or out onto the monastery’s medicinal gardens awash with Mediterranean greenery, herbs and native fauna. 

Al-fresco dining is central to the Lopud experience, from breakfasts on the sun deck and casual barbeques in the idyllic upper gardens, to drinks on the sunset terrace atop the ancient fortress. Those wishing to dine inside can experience the Old Kitchen, with woodfired pizzas straight from the traditional Croatian bread oven. 

There is a direct private access to the crystal blue waters of the Adriatic where to start the day with a refreshing open water swim or explore Croatia’s rocky coastline by stand-up paddle board, kayak or snorkel. All equipment is provided. Lopoud concierge team will be happy to organise visits of the Dalmatian Coast delights such as horse riding, mountain biking… An integrated wellness experience, including meditation and yoga, is inspired by the natural world.
